FIRST OF ALL THE CHAIN HAS BEEN BROKEN!!! SECONDLY I KNOW THE LORD'S PRAYER, IT'S JOHN CHAPTER 17, HAVE THESE PEOPLE READING THIS E-MAIL EVER READ THE 17TH CHAPTER OF JOHN? IF SO THEY WOULD KNOW THE LORD'S PRAYER! THIRDLY JESUS TAUGHT THIS PRAYER TO THE DISCIPLES AFTER THEY ASKED HIM TO TEACH THEM TO PRAY, AND AFTER TEACHING HOW THE SCRIBES AND PHARISEES BOASTED ON THEIR VAIN AND REPITITIOUS PRAYERS. HE DID NOT SAY TO PRAY IT AS AN END ALL TO EVERY POSSIBLE SITUATION THAT COMES ALONG. GOD NEVER PROMISED US A HUNKY DORY LIFE AS THE RESULTS OF THIS E-MAIL CLAIMS. THAT'S WHY JESUS SAID, BLESSED ARE YE, WHEN MEN SHALL REVILE YOU, AND PERSECUTE YOU, AND SHALL SAY ALL MANNERS OF EVIL AGIANST YOU FALSELY, FOR MY SAKE." BY THE CLAIM OF THIS E-MAIL I HAVE A QUESTION. DID JESUS FORGET IT WHEN HE WAS IN THE GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE? DID HE FORGET IT WHILE HE WAS INFRONT OF PILATE? I KNOW THERE ARE A LOT OF CHURCHES THAT REPEAT THIS PRAYER EVERY SUNDAY IN THE SERVICE, IT'S THE ONLY WAY THEY GET TO GOD. IT IS ALWAYS SAID, EVERY SUNDAY, WITHOUT FAIL. OTHER ASPECTS OF THE SERVICE MAY CHANGE FROM TIME TO TIME BUT NEVER LEAVING OUT THE LORD'S PRAYER! HAVE THEY MADE IT A VAIN AND REPITITIOUS PRAYER? I FOR ONE AM GLAD I HAVE GRACE, GRACE GIVEN THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD, GRACE MY LORD JESUS CHRIST GAVE ME THE DAY HE DIED ON THE CROSS, THE GRACE GOD GAVE WHEN HE GAVE US HIS ONLY SON, SEE JOHN 3:16. I GO THROUGH HARD TIMES, WE ALL DO, GOD NEVER PROMISED US A LIFE WITH OUT IT. BUT THROUGH THE BAD TIMES THROUGH THE STRIFE GOD HAS GIVEN HIS HOLY SPIRIT, THE COMFORTER, TO DO JUST THAT, TO COMFORT, I PRAISE HIM FOR THAT! I AM GLAD FOR GRACE THROUGH FAITH (SEE EPH 2:8-9) THAT BY GRACE PLUS NOTHING ELSE I AM SAVED, NOT WORKS IN THE CHURCH, NOT BAPTISM, NOT TAKING COMMUNION, BUT BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH, NOT OF OURSELVES IT IS A GIFT ( a free gift) WE ARE SAVED! NOT BY REPEATING A PRAYER IN VAIN DO WE GET GOD'S GLORY, BUT BY DILIGENTLY SEARCHING HIM OUT, BY HITTING OUR KNEES AND PRAYING TO HIM IN EARNEST, BY GIVING IT ALL TO HIM, THEN HE ANSWERS OUR PRAYERS ACCORDING TO HIS GLORY. GOING THROUGH THE TRIALS WE CAN GLORIFY HIM, THAT'S WHEN WE CAN TRUELY SEE HIM WORK IN OUR LIVES.

PERSONALLY I ALMOST LOOK AT AN EMAIL LIKE THIS AS BLAPHEMOUS TO THE LIVING WORD OF GOD! I BELIEVE IT IS IN SUCH ERROR THAT GOD IS SHAMED BY IT'S WORDING AND MEANING, I CAN HEAR THE WORDS MY JESUS SPOKE TO THE DISCIPLES," OH YE OF LITTLE FAITH"
PETER SHOULD HAVE FALLEN ON HIS KNEES AND STARTED REPEATING THIS PRAYER OVER AND OVER SO HE WOULDN'T HAVE TO FOLLOW CHRIST IN HIS MANNER OF DEATH. YOU SEE JESUS TOLD HIM HE WOULD FOLLOW HIM IN DEATH. HE SAID HE WOULD DIE IN THE SAME MANNER. BUT, BY FAITH, PETER WAS ALSO HUNG ON A CROSS. HE FOLLOWED HIS LORD AND SAVIOUR, HE FOLLOWED JESUS, AND DIED A MARTYRS DEATH ON THE CROSS.
I LOOK AT THE SUFFERINGS AND AGONIES I HAVE HAD THROUGH MY LIFE. THE TIMES I WALKED AWAY FROM GOD I KNEW NO COMFORT, I FELT PAIN UNENDING. BUT DURING MY LIFE SEVING GOD, I HAVE HAD TRIALS AND WENT TO GOD FOR COMFORT. THE SITUATION MAY NOT HAVE CHANGED BUT! MY COMFORT WAS IN THE HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD. REMEMBER WHEN JESUS SAID,"PEACE BE STILL"? IT SOMETIMES TAKES AWHILE BUT SOONER THAN LATER I HEAR THOSE WORDS AND THE TRIALS ARE EASED THE PAIN IS GONE. NO REPEATING OF A PRAYER LIKE THIS E-MAIL SAYS CAN GIVE YOU UNENDING PROSPERITY AND TAKE AWAY ANY POSSIBILITY OF TRIALS AND STRIFE. I HAVE FAITH IN GOD ALONE, I AM NOT LOOKING FOR A FALSE HOPE IN FOLLOWING A REPITITION TO DELIVER ME FROM ALL THE CARES OF THE WORLD. IF YOU WANT PROSPERITY HAVE IT SPIRITUALLY IN GOD, HAVE IT THROUGH HIS WRITTEN WORD. HAVE IT IN FALLING DOWN BEFORE HIM AND PRASING HIS NAME IN TRUTH AND HONOR. NAME YOUR CARES BEFORE HIM, PLACE YOUR LIFE IN HIS HANDS,. THIS DOESN'T MEAN YOU WILL NEVER SUFFER, BUT MEANS YOU HAVE A PLACE TO TAKE YOUR CARES, YOUR NEEDS AND YOUR PRAISES. HONOR GOD WITH YOUR WHOLE HEART AND SOUL, PRASIE HIS GLORIOUS NAME, GIVE IT ALL TO HIM, HE WILL BLESS AS HE SOVERIENGLY SEES FIT. BUT PLEASE DON'T PUT YOUR HOPE IN SOME REPITITOUS VAIN AND BLASPHEMOUS E-MAIL.

Letters like this, though it has the word of God in it such as the disciples prayer that Jesus gave them, and all that is added to it in the prayer sounds great, but what happens when someone experience something in opposition to what was said, does that make God out to be a liar. God can not lie this we know, I feel that this chain letter contradicts the sovereignty of God. And that through what is we do go through in life equips us to help others who are going through what it is we where permitted to endure and therefore bring the same comfort that we received in Christ to them.
DaKingsKid.the one that passed it on to me said letters like this make her feel good. I asked her if getting out her Bible and reading it herself might make her feel even better. She replied that it is through Godly friendships that she feels better. So I told her if she wants to feel even better to read John 17, THE LORD'S PRAYER. Where Jesus prayed to God for all that follow Him. She is in a church that relies on the pastor to bring them the Word and tell them what to believe instead of reading God's Word be themselves. I feel good knowing I can open my Bible, seek God's face and let the Holy Spirit lead me in what I read. All made possible because of Christ!
So true. I like to tell others if they only would find out what is in the bible for themselves, they would be surprised. One thing I do know brother is that those that water shall also be watered, so may God pour out a refreshing rain upon you as He uses you to release the wind of change in the lives of others.AMEN

I could go to a bible study, and listen to someone teach and get plenty out of it, but it is when I read my bible off by myself that God really blessed me with the deeper revelations.
DaKingsKid, exactly, we need that time away from the rigors of life to be alone with God in studying His Word and being in prayer.

My brother Michael Adams; I have received emails like that many times before and as a person who loathes chain mails even before the days of email, I normally pay very little attention to them. I went through the first part of this hub just to understand better the sentiments of the writers of these emails and of course my observation is that, there is no difference between this particular email and the things we all say and do to one another. How many times I have heard folks say (including me at one time)to a brother or sister in need that they would be praying for them when all they wanted was to share their heartfelt feelings. How many times do we quote meaningless verses in circumstances we do not understand just because they sound good or convenient, i.e. we pray that God's will be done. Well, my question is, "what is God's will do you know it or not? What does the Bible say about this particular situation? Or did we find a scripture with that word in it and decide to use it across the board? What about other scriptures that others may have picked that are also convenient, what do we say? As children of God, what we lack is not the availability of God's word but 'the knowledge of it'. "My people perish because of lack of knowledge", what we have been taught and pass on to others is not sufficient, if we are to be true followers of Christ, we must bury our heads in His word, remain on our knees and open our mouths in wisdom. There is no way God will not use us in mighty ways so that we can stop being belaboring one another over scriptures and expressions that we understand differently. The Bible is complex, the people who wrote it were used by God, the people who study it should be led by God and those who teach it should be inspired by the Holy Spirit or we will all only claim truths that were passed on to us through teaching and not necessarily what we have let God teach us.
Oh you have said it so well, we don't lack knowledge of God's Word we lack knowledge of knowing how to apply it that is so true. I am taking a nouthetics counseling course to be a church counsellor, the critiques say we are the "nothing butterist" because we say nothing but the Bible God's Word, but what else is there? It is God's Word or nothing and knowing how to properly use it. Thank you so much for your comment and joining to follow my writings.

I love it. I've been telling our church for years that the Lord's Prayer is in John 17. As far as being too Baptist--as long as built on the Word of God and just the simple truth of the Gospel, it can't be too much anything. Thanks for your stand.
